Bustle's Third Signing Class Nets 27 New Prospects for 2004

LAFAYETTE – The University of Louisiana at Lafayette
announced on Wednesday the signing of 19 high school
football players and eight junior college transfers to
national letters of intent. The signing class marks the
third for the university under head coach Rickey Bustle.
“This is a fantastic group,” said Bustle. “This group
of student-athletes is very athletic and extremely
talented.”
The Cajuns signed two local products, quarterback
Michael Desormeaux and running back Caleb Rubin from New
Iberia's Catholic High and Lafayette High, respectively.
In addition to Desormeaux and Rubin, UL Lafayette signed seven other in-state prospects. The Cajuns ventured outside the state to gain commitments from five other states and British Columbia, Canada.
One-third of Louisiana-Lafayette's 27 new faces are currently enrolled in school for the spring semester, including running back Abdule LeVier, who initially signed with the Cajuns last year out of Port Barre, but decided not to begin school in 2003.
In addition to LeVier, Tommy Briggs, Eddie Brown, Justin
Ernest, Ryan Gilles, Curtis Isaac, Jesse Newman,
Jemarcus Smith and Luke Sniewski all have enrolled in
classes this spring.
“With a second place finish in the conference last year,
we've raised expectation levels,” Bustle added. “This
group needs to come in prepared to work hard and help us
achieve our goals.”
The Cajuns signed 16 players on offense and 11 on
defense. The biggest of which came in the trenches, as
UL Lafayette claimed five defensive lineman/ends and
four offensive linemen. UL Lafayette also inked four
wide receivers.
“I need to thank the large number of individuals who
gave the program financial support in recruiting,”
commented Bustle. “They are a big part of our success.”
