Those who witnessed her in action saw her shred through opposing batting lineups with such ease that it almost looked like she was merely going through the motions.
It was simply the continued progression of a sparkling career that is destined to be one of the best in program history.
The results of her efforts – two no-hitters, six victories, 74 strikeouts in 42 innings of work and the honor of being named the Most Outstanding Player of the Mardi Gras Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette this past weekend.
The numbers speak for themselves. The domination was a sight to see.
On Tuesday, Mitchell's accomplishments were recognized as she was named the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week.
Mitchell was named SBC Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time in her career and second straight week. The Pasadena, Texas, native has an early monopoly on the league's weekly honor.
The Cajuns have now won SBC hitter or pitcher of the week 26 times in three-plus seasons under former Ragin' Cajuns pitching All-American and current head coach Stefni Lotief.
Mitchell
capped off a week of dominance for the Ragin' Cajuns of
No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette, being named the Louisiana's
Mardi Gras Classics Most Outstanding Player after
tossing 28 innings and striking out 50 batters in four
appearances in the tournament.
Mitchell tossed a no-hitter of Big 12-member Missouri on Saturday, striking out 12 MU batters en route to her second no-hitter of the week and seventh of her career. Earlier in the week, Mitchell pitched a no-hitter at Nicholls State on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
In the doubleheader at Nicholls State on Wednesday, she pitched both ends and fanned 12 NSU hitters each time.
Perhaps one of her most impressive performances of the week came in relief against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. With the game tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, she relived starter Holly Tankersley and tossed six innings of no-hit softball striking out 15 of the 19 batters that she faced as the Cajuns won 3-2 in extra innings
She had double-digit strikeouts in five of her six appearances and through 11 appearances this season she has struck out double-digits nine times.
For the season she averages over 12 strikeouts per game and recently climbed to third on the school's all-time strikeouts list with her 577th career strikeout Sunday against Stephen F. Austin.
Mitchell and the No. 10 ranked Ragin' Cajuns will be back in action Wednesday as Louisiana-Lafayette hosts in-state rival Louisiana-Monroe at 2 p.m. in a twinbill at the Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
