SFA Tops Texas Tech In Saturday's Finale

LAFAYETTE – Stephen F. Austin bounced back from its lone loss of the tournament, taking a 4-1 decision over Texas Tech in game 12 of the 1st Annual Louisiana's Mardi Gras Classics Saturday night at Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.
Carrie Woydziak drove in two runs and Crissy Autry held the Lady Raiders to just three hits while striking out 12 as the LadyJacks improved to 3-1 in tournament play and setup a showdown with No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette for the tournament's title at 2:30 p.m. Sunday
Texas Tech committed a tournament-high five errors leading to two unearned runs for SFA.
SFA jumped on the board first with a run in the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead.
Heather Hebert led off the game with a double into left center. A ground out by Ragen Rutherford advanced Hebert to third. She would then score when Woydziak ripped a double into left field.
TTU tied the game with a home run from Kelly Rhyne to lead off the bottom of the second.
The LadyJacks regained the lead for good on an RBI infield single by pinch hitter Kristen Exline that scored pinch runner Jaime Brown with the winning run.
Autry continued to control the TTU lineup allowing just one hit over the final three innings while retiring nine of the 10 batters she faced.
SFA added two more insurance runs in the top half to push the advantage to 4-1.
Autry picked up the win for the LadyJacks while Julie Hauck took the loss for Texas Tech.
TTU wraps up its stay at the Mardi Gras Classic Sunday at 12:15 p.m. against Southeastern Louisiana.
