LAFAYETTE – A two-run home run in the first inning by Becky de la Garza was the difference in a 2-0 win for Southeastern Louisiana over Prairie View here Saturday in game seven of the 1st Annual Louisiana's Mardi Gras Classics.

The home run came with two outs in the bottom of the first after Prairie View shortstop Laura Quezada bobbled a grounder by Karin Smith on what would have been the third out.

The Lions (5-9) took advantage of the golden opportunity as de la Garza crushed an offering from Trisha Anderson over the right field wall.

Summer Delaneuville made the two runs stand for SLU as she rolled through the PV lineup scattering two hits over seven innings. Delaneuville, who picked up her second win of the tournament, struck out 11 and walked none.

Anderson took the loss for Prairie View despite giving up just four hits.

SLU improved to 2-1 in tournament play and returns to action at 1:30 p.m. against No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette (10-1).

Prairie View (0-5) makes the quick turnaround and faces Texas Tech (4-10) at 11:15 a.m.
