LAFAYETTE – A run scored by Stephen F. Austin's Heather Hebert on a throwing error by Missouri center fielder Leanne Bowers in the top of the first inning proved to be the deciding run in a 2-1 win by SFA in game two of the 1st Annual Louisiana's Mardi Gras Classic here Friday afternoon at Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park.

With runners on first and second, Carrie Woydziak lifted a single into center field. Crystal Dahlquist, who led off the game with a walk, was rounding third and Bowers attempted to catch her at the plate, but the throw went wide allowing Heather Hebert to round third for a second run on the error.

The resulting play gave the LadyJacks (3-5) a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play.

The score would remain the same until Missouri scratched for a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With one out, Morgan LeCluyse lifted a triple into left field over the head of SFA's Dalhquist.

Samantha Freeman brought LeCluyse home on a fielder's choice grounder to cut the deficit to 2-1.

SFA reliever Nicole Carter worked her way out of the jam, inducing another fielder's choice grounder from Amanda Jo White and then struck out Kendra Power for the final out of the inning.

The Tigers (2-10) had one more chance to pull even in the seventh. With one out, Ashley Hays drew a walk. A fielder's choice from Bowers forced out Hays for the second out.

Bowers then stole second to put a runner in scoring position with two outs. Sarah Stringer, however, would line out to SFA shortstop Lee Lara for the final out.

Carter threw four innings allowing just one run on one hit. She picked up the win by virtue of NCAA rules which state that a pitcher must pitch four complete innings for a victory. SFA starter Traci Moore, who threw three innings and allowed just two hits, walked away with no decision.

Erin Kalka took the hard-luck loss for the Tigers. Kalka went the distance and gave up six hits and two runs, only one earned, while striking out 14 SFA hitters. After the first inning blunder, she scattered just four hits.

SFA, now 1-0 in tournament action, will return to action at 3:45 p.m. against Prairie View A&M.

Missouri fell to 0-2 in tournament action and is finished for the day. The Tigers' next game is slated for 3:45 p.m. Saturday in a rematch with SFA.
