NEW ORLEANS -
The Sun Belt Conference wrapped-up its football media days
on Wednesday afternoon with the announcement of the 2003
preseason poll and All-Conference Team.
UL Lafayette's Fred Stamps was the only Cajun on the
preseason team, earning first team honors. A senior wide
receiver from Carver High School in New Orleans, Stamps
enters the 2003 campaign fresh off a sensational 1,000-yard
season that included eight touchdown receptions. He is
currently fifth in the nation with a reception streak of 32
games.
North Texas' junior running back Patrick Cobbs and senior
defensive tackle Brandon Kennedy were named the Preseason
Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

Head Coach Rickey Bustle spent time visiting with ESPN
television on Wed.
Louisiana-Lafayette finished fifth in the preseason poll
voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors
and media members. With 98 points, the Ragin' Cajuns topped
Utah State (75), Idaho (59) and Louisiana-Monroe (43).
Defending champion North Texas placed first with 186 points,
followed by New Mexico State (160), Middle Tennessee (131)
and Arkansas State (112).
The SBC also announced its entire football television
package which features nine ESPN Regional broadcasts and two
national broadcasts on ESPN2. The regular season game on
Tuesday, November 25 between North Texas and host-New Mexico
State will be aired nationally on ESPN2, along with the New
Orleans Bowl on Tuesday, December 16.
The Cajuns game versus New Mexico State on Thursday, October
16 at 6pm at Cajun Field is one of the nine games on the Sun
Belt-ERT package that includes a variety of regional cable
networks, local over-the-air-stations and cable systems
throughout the country. The affiliate stations and cable
systems will be announced by the SBC in the coming weeks.
