Cajun Men Continue Hot Streak
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team extended their winning streak to five matches with a 5-2 victory over Nevada-Las Vegas Friday here at the HEB Classic.
The Cajuns improve to 6-2 on the season. UL Lafayette has now won five consecutive matches and have matched last season's win total. Last season, the Cajuns finished 6-17.
No. 71-ranked Jakub Ilowski (7-1) won his seventh consecutive match of the season with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 victory over UNLV's Aviram Salomon.
UNLV's Henner Nehles snapped Michael Tarkowski's five-match winning streak with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set victory. Tarkowski falls to 6-2 on the season.
UL Lafayette swept all three doubles matches from Nevada-Las Vegas. Ilowski and Kovalev knocked off Nehles and Romain Massaro 8-3. Amanjot Singh and Evghenii Corduneanu improve to 7-2 on the season with an 8-4 victory over Salomon and Joel Keilbowicz.
"I am really proud of our guys to beat a good program," said UL Lafayette head coach Justin McGrath. "I am really proud of Amanjot, although he lost his match. He really showed that he is more than a freshman."
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team returns to action Sunday when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. here at the HEB Classic.
