LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns head softball coach Stefni Lotief announced Friday that a doubleheader with Louisiana Tech on Monday, March 24 has been added to the team's schedule.
Louisiana-Lafayette (15-5) will travel to Ruston on Monday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader with the Lady Techsters at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex located on the La. Tech campus. It will be the Cajuns first action in 10 days, having been off since Friday, March 14 following the KIA Klassic.
This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The Cajuns and Techsters met in a doubleheader at Lady Cajun Park on Feb. 11 in UL Lafayette's season opener with the Cajuns claiming an 8-0 (5 inning), 4-0 sweep of their in-state rivals.
In that first meeting, UL Lafayette's Brooke Mitchell tossed the first perfect game of her career in the five-inning mercy-rule win. True freshman Danyele Gomez belted a grand slam in her first-ever collegiate at bat and then would homer in her second at bat of the game. Freshman Brittany Bryant also homered in her first collegiate at bat to end the game in five innings.
Louisiana-Lafayette leads the all-time series 31-30 and is a perfect 6-0 against LTU under Lotief. The Cajuns have won the last 10 meetings between the long-time rivals with Tech's last win coming on April 25, 1998 a 3-1 decision in Ruston. UL Lafayette has outscored La. Tech 49-1 in the last seven meetings.
UL Lafayette will enter the La. Tech matchup having lost three of its last four outings against tough competition at the 2003 KIA Klassic in Fullerton, Calif. UL Lafayette lost to two ranked teams and suffered a heartbreaker against Long Beach State in the tourney opener. The Cajuns held No. 6 Oklahoma to just one hit and defeated No. 16 Florida State 3-0.
La. Tech (7-21) has a doubleheader schedule with Sam Houston State this Friday before taking on the Cajuns on Monday. The Techsters have split their last six games.
Following Monday's games, the Ragin' Cajuns will return home to begin a 16-game homestand. The stretch, which will conclude the Cajuns 2003 home schedule and run through April 17, begins on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in a single game against SEC-member Alabama.
