Cajuns Shutdown Lamar 6-1
LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team extended their winning streak to four matches Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Lamar University here at Cajun Courts.
The Cajuns improve to 5-2 and have won five of their last six matches.
Senior and No. 71-ranked Jakub Ilowski (6-1) defeated Lamar's Jakob Paulsen 7-6, 6-1. Ilowski extended his winning streak to six matches.
Freshman Ivan Kovalev (6-2) extended his winning streak to four matches with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lamar's Nebojsa Murisic.
Shreveport native Russ Patrick made his second appearance of the spring for the Cajuns. Patrick (1-1) lost 7-5, 7-5 to Lamar's Christian Oliver.
In doubles, Amanjot Singh and Evghenii Corduneanu improved to 6-2 with an 8-2 victory over Lamar's Juan Alatorre and Murisic. Patrick and Marc Castellana also won their doubles match, an 8-3 win over Thatcher Cribbs and Naeem Kath of Lamar.
"We had a great weekend," said UL Lafayette head coach Justin McGrath. "I think we are getting better and better every week."
"We are getting very excited about competing against nationally-ranked opponents next week in Corpus Christi."
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team travels to Corpus Christi, Texas, on Saturday to compete in the HEB Classic.
