Colbert Hills Proves Tough Test For Cajuns

MANHATTAN, Kan..
– Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team struggled in the first two rounds of the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate Invitational here at Colbert Hills Golf Course and find themselves 37 strokes behind tournament leader SMU after the first day of competition.

The Cajuns shot a 320 in the opening round and 321 in the second round for a total of 65 strokes over par, placing them 12th overall.

The top individual golfer for the Cajuns is South African native Doron Mommsen who was sitting in a tie for seventh after a first round score of 75 (+3). Mommsen shot a second round score of 81 (+9) to finish the day tied for 20th at 12 over par and trails individual leader Aaron Watkins of Kansas State by 12 strokes.

Other Cajuns notables include Brett Ashmore (83-79, 162) who is tied for 44th, Theo Sliman (85-80, 165) tied for 54th, and Otto Sigurdsson (84-81, 165) also tied for 54th.

New Mexico JC transfer Tobias Winberg made his first appearance as a member of the Cajuns golf team and shot an opening round 78 (+6) to go along with a second round score of 91 (+19) to finish the day in 64th place.

UL Lafayette will conclude tournament action with the final round Tuesday morning.
