Cajuns Finish Regular Season

CAJUN TENNIS FINISHES REGULAR SEASON ON THE ROAD

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's and women's tennis teams finished regular season dual match play this past weekend.

The Cajun women's team brought their record to 8-6 with a 4-0 win at Southern Mississippi Saturday.

The Cajuns earned default wins at the No. 5 and 6 singles spots and did not play doubles.

The season ended with a 4-1 loss at Alabama-Birmingham Sunday for an 8-7 final record on the season. Senior Amadine Hubert claimed the Cajuns' only point of the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sjouke Liem at No. 3 singles.

In doubles Hubert and Amanda Cowieson claimed an 8-5 win over Liem and Natascha Immele at the No. 2 spot, but lost the doubles point.

The Cajun men's team ended the season with a disappointing 5-15 record with losses to Tulane and Southern Mississippi.

The Cajuns suffered a 6-1 loss to the 31st-ranked Green Wave in New Orleans Saturday.

Johann van der Westhuizen claimed the Cajuns' only point of the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Goran Vasiljevic at No. 4 singles.

Tulane won the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles by default.

The Cajuns hosted Southern Mississippi at Cajun Courts Sunday for their last regular season dual match.

At No. 1 and 3 singles Jakub Ilowski and Westhuizen claimed three-set tiebreaker wins over Mikka Kangas and J.J. Martin.

Anthony Blache earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory David Jansson at No. 2 singles.

Southern Mississippi swept the doubles competition.

The Cajuns will travel to the Sun Belt Conference Championships hosted by South Alabama in Mobile this weekend.
