Cajuns Fall to 4-5 with Loss to #59 Michigan State

CAJUNS FALL TO 4-5 WITH LOSS TO #59 MICHIGAN STATE
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's tennis
team suffered their fifth-straight dual match loss Tuesday with a 4-3 defeat to
Michigan State at Cajun Courts.
Despite being short one player due to injuries, the
Cajuns dominated early and won the doubles point.
Jakub Ilowski and Johann van der Westhuizen paired
up for an 8-5 win over Michigan State's Eric Simonton and Jimmy McGuire at No.
1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles Anthony Blache and Marc Castellan
pulled off a 9-7 tiebreaker victory to secure the Cajuns' first point of the
match.
In singles, Ilowski claimed a second point for the
Cajuns with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Chris Mitchell at No. 1 singles. Ilowski has
won seven out of nine matches this season.
At No. 2 singles Westhuizen suffered a 0-6, 6-3, 6-2
loss to Andy Formanczyk.
The Cajuns' final point of the day came when Blache
defeated Goran Topalo 6-1, 7-6 at the third spot in the singles lineup.
At No. 5 singles, Bobby Hawkins returned to the
Cajun squad after being sidelined last season with an injury. Hawkins suffered
a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Simonton.
The Cajuns will return to action Mar. 8-10 in the
HEB Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
