CAJUN TENNIS TEAMS SUFFER SUNDAY LOSSES
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's and women's
tennis teams ended their weekend on the road with a loss to each of them.
The women's team fell to 5-5 with a 6-1 loss to Arkansas
State.
The Indians dominated early to sweep the doubles matches
and claim their first point of the match.
Vinca Rampen suffered her second No. 1 singles loss with a
6-3, 7-5 defeat against Gia Geme.
Fernanda Kompatscher, Amandine Hubert and Robin Singh all
suffered two-set losses at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles.
The Cajuns' sole point of the match came when Amanda
Cowieson claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory from Julia Searle at No. 5 singles.
At No. 6 singles Susan Linden collected a disappointing
6-3, 6-7 (9-7), 10-6 tiebreaker defeat against Marusa Pogacnik.
The Cajun men's team (4-11) suffered a 4-3 loss to 39th
ranked Rice to end their weekend at the Rice Invitational Tournament in
Houston, Texas.
The Cajuns' were able to earn their first point of the day
with two tiebreaker doubles wins.
Jakub Ilowski and Bobby Hawkins collected a 9-7 win over
50th ranked Fabien Giraud and William Barker at No. 2 doubles. This
was the first time a Cajun doubles team has defeated a ranked pair.
In singles Ilowski collected his tenth dual match victory
with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Matt Mathaes.
The Cajuns' final point of the match came when Johann van
der Westhuizen defeated Fabien Giraud 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Anthony Blache and Michael Tarkowski both suffered two-set
losses to William Barker and Prakash Vankataraman at No. 2 and 4 singles.
At No. 5 singles Marc Castellana gave up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3
defeat to Harding Brumby.
Hawkins struggled through a 7-6, 7-6 tiebreaker loss to
Take Morita at No. 6 singles.
