CAJUN TENNIS GETS A WIN AND A LOSS ON THE ROAD

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's and women's tennis teams took off in opposite directions and came up with a win for the women and a loss for the men.

The women, who were in Memphis Saturday, earned a 4-3 win over the Tigers to bring their record to 5-4.

At No. 1 singles Vinca Rampen recovered from a tiebreaker loss in the Cajuns' home match against Cornell with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sabrina Lindemann.

Fernanda Kompatscher and Amandine Hubert both suffered two-set losses at No. 2 and 3 singles.

At No. 4 singles Robin Singh, who sat out the beginning of the season with an injury pulled off a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Annika Westberg.

Amanda Cowieson and Susan Linden were able to secure two-set victories over Rebecca Garner and Laura Hughes at the last two spots in the Cajuns' singles lineup.

In doubles, Memphis was able to collect wins in the first two matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 3 doubles the Cajun duo of Linden and Kompatscher earned an 8-4 win over Garner and Hughes.

On the men's side, the Cajuns suffered a 4-3 loss from No. 43 Virginia Tech at the Rice Invitational Tournament in Houston, Texas.

The Cajuns were hurt early when Virginia Tech swept the doubles matches to earn their first point of the day.

Jakub Ilowski claimed the Cajuns' first point of the match with a 7-6, 6-2 win over 78th ranked Saber Kadini. This is Ilowski's first win over a ranked player this season.

Anthony Blache and Johann van der Westhuizen both suffered tiebreaker losses to Francis Huot and Davor Dupljak at No. 2 and 3 singles.

At No. 4 singles Michael Tarkowski was defeated 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 by Stephane Rod for his first three-set loss this dual match season.

Marc Castellana earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over David Emery at No. 5 singles for his third win this spring.

At No. 6 singles Bobby Hawkins earned the Cajuns' final point of the match with a 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Virginia Tech's Grant Semon.

The women's team will return to action next weekend when they travel to Texas-Arlington and North Texas.

The men's team will host Tulane at 4 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 at Cajun Courts.
