CAJUN MEN'S TENNIS FALLS 0-3 AT HEB CLASSIC
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun
men's tennis team suffered three losses at the HEB Classic this past weekend to
bring their dual match record to 4-9.
The Cajuns began the tournament Friday with a 4-3
loss to Colorado. Play continued to Saturday where the Cajuns suffered a 5-1
loss to New Orleans and a 5-0 defeat from East Tennessee State.
The Cajuns suffered default losses at No. 6 singles
and No. 3 doubles in all three matches. Michael Tarkowski and Jason Pieters are
both unable to play because of injuries leaving open spots in the Cajuns'
lineup.
In the match against Colorado, the Cajuns claimed wins
at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles by Anthony Blache, Marc Castellan and Bobby Hawkins.
In doubles, Ilowski and Johann van der Westhuizen
defeated Justin Hunter and Bryan Knepper 8-5. However, Colorado claimed an 8-2
win over Blache and Castellan at No. 2 doubles and the default win at No. 3
doubles to earn the point.
In the loss to New Orleans, Ilowski claimed the only
point for the Cajuns with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sebastien Locatelli at No. 1
singles. Blache did not finish his match against Mickael Chkroun at No. 2
singles.
Ilwoski and Westhuizen earned an 8-4 victory for the
Cajuns over Anders Oding and Locatelli at No. 1 doubles, but lost the doubles
point in the second and third match.
Louisiana-Lafayette's last match of the tournament
against East Tennessee State did not bring a single win. At No. 3 and 5 singles
Westhuizen and Hawkins did not finish their matches against Pablo Sahagha and
Roberto Fernandez. East Tennessee swept the doubles competition.
The Cajuns will be back in action against Oklahoma
State at 9 a.m. Friday, Mar. 22 in Houston, Texas.
