Cajuns Knott Named Sun Belt Special Team Player of the Week

CAJUNS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF THE SPRING TO #8 BAYLOR
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's tennis
team, ranked 75th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association,
suffered their first loss of the spring 2002 season Saturday. The Cajuns fell
to 4-1 this season with a 6-1 defeat from #8 Baylor.
The Cajuns lost the first point of the day when
Baylor swept all three doubles matches. This was the first time this season
that the Bears have been able to win a doubles point from a ranked team.
In singles, sophomore Jason Pieters suffered a
7-6(7-2), 6-4 tiebreaker loss to third-ranked Benjamin Becker at the first spot
in the Cajuns' lineup.
At the No. 2 spot, Jakub Ilowski was defeated 4-6,
6-1, 6-0 by Baylor's Markus Hornung, ranked 25th. This was Ilowski's
first dual match this year.
Anthony Blache, Johann van der Westhuizen and Marc
Castellan suffered straight-set losses at the next three spots in the Cajuns'
singles lineup.
The Cajuns' only point of the day came when Michael
Tarkowski earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Baylor's Nathan McGregor.
The Cajuns will travel to Starkville, Miss. Thursday
for a 2 p.m. matchup against Mississippi State.
