CAJUNS LAND FIVE ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Monday, December 2, 2002

LAFAYETTE, LA
- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns had five players named to the 2002 Sun Belt Conference all-conference football team, making it ten players in two seasons for the Cajuns. Senior defensive back Charles Tillman and junior wide receiver Fred Stamps led the way for the Cajuns, taking home first team honors. Tillman, who was a unanimous selection, earned first team honors last season as well.

Senior offensive lineman Jonathon Raush and defensive lineman Walter Sampson, along with junior tight end Josh Joerg garnered second team praise.

"I'm proud of the efforts these players gave this season," said head coach Rickey Bustle, "Each was a difference maker for our team and I'm glad they were recognized for it. They deserve it."

Tillman finished his career with 284 total tackles and 12 interceptions. His total tackles rank as the 5th most all-time by a Cajun and second all-time among defensive backs. He led the Cajuns with 100 tackles in 2002, including 65 solo stops. The Copperas Cove, Texas, native forced three fumbles and blocked three kicks. Tillman's three blocks led to 12 points by the Cajuns (TD, FG, Safety). He recorded two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and eight pass break-ups, posting nine or more tackles in six games.

Stamps finished his career year with 54 receptions and 1,002 receiving yards. His 1,002 yards are the fourth best total in school history and make him only the second player in school history to collect 1,000 receiving yards. His eight touchdowns tie as the third most all-time in a single season. He currently has 118 catches for 1,806 yards in his career, the fourth most receptions and the fifth best yardage total in school history. Stamps has caught at least one pass in all 32 games of his collegiate career.

Raush, who started 45 consecutive games on the offensive line, not missing a game his entire career, was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team last season as well. He saw significant playing time during his final season, playing 64 or more plays in 10 of the Cajuns 12 games.

Sampson recorded 44 total tackles this past season, including nine for loss. Finished his career with 135 total tackles, including 32 for a loss of 138 yards and 16.5 sacks. His 32 tackles for loss rank fifth all-time in school history.

Joerg entered the 2002 season with just seven catches for 56 yards and one touchdown in his two-year career. He finished his breakout season with nine catches for 169 yards and a touchdown, representing an 18.7 yards per catch average. Joerg caught three passes for 54 yards in the Cajuns 34-0 victory over UAB.
