A 30-year collegiate coaching veteran, Mitch Rodrigue begins his seventh season as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Louisiana.

A native of Thibodaux, La., Rodrigue joined the Cajuns staff after working at South Alabama for three seasons (2008-10).

In his tenure in Lafayette, Rodrigue developed an offensive line that ranked among the most efficient groups in the country.  For the third consecutive year in 2014, all five regulars started all 13 games together, helping Louisiana rank 26th nationally in rushing (204.5 yards per game), and 56th in total offense (416.8).

Highlighting the steadiness of the offensive line, brothers Daniel and Mykhael Quave were named to the preseason watch list for Lombardi Award – the only set of brothers named to a national watch list.

Daniel Quave, a 2014 All-Sun Belt Conference performer at right guard, concluded his career after starting in all 52 games of his career, one shy of the all-time NCAA career record.

Rodrigue’s offensive line unit in 2012 saw a 55-percent increase in rushing from the previous season and after inheriting a line that allowed 39 sacks in 2010, Rodrigue molded a unit that gave up 13 in 2012 to rank 13th in the country.

In his career, Rodrigue has worked with schools that have earned a combined 14 bowl invitations. Five of his players have gone on to the National Football League, including Chris Clark (Denver), Jeremy Parquet (Pittsburgh), Ryan McKee (Kansas City), Chris White (Seattle) and Daniel Quave (Dallas). Clark, currently a starter with the Broncos, played in Super Bowl XLVIII while Parquet earned a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.

Before returning to his home state, Rodrigue was part of South Alabama’s first foray into football.

In the program’s inaugural season in 2009, two of Rodrigue’s tight ends played a vital role in helping the Jag offense average 439 yards and nearly 46 points per contest.

Prior to his arrival at South Alabama, Rodrigue spent nine seasons at Southern Miss, where he coached the offensive line (2003-07), tight ends (2000-02) and running backs (1999).

During his tenure, he was a valuable member of the staff, not only on the field, but also as a recruiter, as he was named one of Rivals.com Top 10 recruiters from a non-BCS conference in 2006.

In 2005, Rodrigue guided the offensive line to another strong season, as the offense finished with 4,288 yards of total offense, the sixth-best performance in school history. The offensive line, led by all-Conference USA performers George Batiste and Travis Cooley, only allowed nine sacks that season, ranking 12th in the nation, and did not allow a sack in six games on the year.

During his first season leading the USM offensive line (2003), Rodrigue helped the Golden Eagles win their fourth Conference USA title and earn an invitation to the Liberty Bowl despite working with a unit that had lost three starters to the NFL from the previous year.

Before taking over as the offensive line coach in 2003, Rodrigue coached the running backs in 1999 and the tight ends from 2000-02. He also assisted with the offensive line during his initial stint at Southern Miss, serving as the program’s graduate assistant in 1989 and 1990 under former head coach Curley Hallman.

Rodrigue coached several seasons at Nicholls State (1993-98), serving as tight ends and offensive line coach as well as offensive coordinator during his time at his alma mater.

Prior to his coaching stint at Nicholls State, Rodrigue worked for two seasons as an assistant coach at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College (1991-92).

Rodrigue played at Nicholls State and helped the Colonels reach the second round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in 1986, as well as win the 1984 Gulf Star Conference title.

Rodrigue is married to the former Sherri Marcet, and is the father of three children, Maci, Madden, and Mallori.
