Cajuns open season on Friday at McNeese Opener

LAFAYETTE – With its season-opener set for Friday (Aug. 31), the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's cross country team was ranked No. 14 in the South Central Region as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason regional rankings on Monday.

Louisiana, which finished third at the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships, returns six runners from last season highlighted by All-SBC performers Stanley Limoh and Jonathan Kimutai.

The Ragin' Cajuns added local runner Key Alfred (Carencro, La.), a two-time Class 4A state champion in cross country, along with freshman Hannes Burger (Gauting, Germany) to a lineup that returns local products George Femmer, Andre Bellard, Regan Lemaire and Conner Meche.

Louisiana will open its season on Friday when it travels to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese Opener at Enos Derbonne Sports Complex (7903 Lake St, Lake Charles, LA 70605). The event will start at 6 p.m., beginning with the women's 3K event followed by the men's 4K race.
