Louis Lenfant joined the track and field team as a walk-on in 1965 and proceeded to become a three-time NAIA All-American and the 1967 national champion in the javelin. His throw of 241 feet, 51/4 inches in 1968 still stands as the Ragin' Cajuns school record. Lenfant was the NAIA national runner-up in the javelin as a freshman in 1966 and finished third overall at the 1968 national meet.
A four-time All-Gulf States Conference selection, Lenfant helped lead USL to four conference titles and was a two-time GSC champion in the javelin. He was named the Outstanding Fieldman at the 1968 Southwestern Relays and was a two-mile All-GSC recipient.
Lenfant was a team captain as a senior and qualified for the 1968 U.S. Olympic Trials.
He is married to the former Gena Uddo and they are the parents of four children.
