Louisiana adds three more women to their 2018-19 roster.
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball head coach Garry Brodhead announced on Tuesday the signing of three women, Carolina Rivera, Kendall Bess and Jazmyn Womack, to National Letters-of-Intent for the 2018-19 season.
SIX NEW RAGIN' CAJUNS: The three women, puts the Cajuns total signing class up to six, with Louisiana having signed three women back in November of 2017. Those women were, Andrea Cournoyer, Brandi Williams and Diamond Morrison.
CAROLINA RIVERA: Rivera hails from Las Vegas, Nev., and she's a 5-foot-8 guard who's played her past two seasons at Casper College in Casper, Wyo. During her two seasons at Casper she's played in 65 games, starting seven, averaging 14.0 minutes per game, 4.3 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game.
"Carolina is a perfect fit for out offense," said Brodhead. "She's got the energy we want from our point guards and she'll run back on defense which is important for the style we run here."
Rivera has been strong from the free throw line during her career shooting 74.1 percent from the line and during her two seasons at Casper she shot 36 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the line. And she's moved the ball well, averaging 2.5 assists per game, with an assist to turnover ratio of 1.5.
          Â
During this past season, Rivera helped Casper finish 31-3, winning the NJCAA Division I Region IX Championship in the process. She came off the bench to play 23 minutes against Western Nebraska Community College in the Region IX Championship game. Rivera grabbed four rebounds and scored four points in those 23 minutes as Casper won the game 85-75.
KENDALL BESS: Bess, who's a six-foot-one guard/forward hybrid, is from Richmond, Texas and she's played at two schools before coming to Louisiana.  "Kendall is athletic and a perfect guard/forward hybrid," said Brodhead. "She's got no fear crashing the boards and should be big in helping us rebound the ball over the next two seasons, which should help our offense get more possessions."Â
During the 2016-17 season she began her career at Morehead State, in Morehead, Ky. While at Morehead State she saw action in 18 games, averaging 2.3 minutes per game during her time there. Bess showed a nose for the boards, grabbing seven in the short amount of time she saw the floor, five of which came on the offensive end of the floor.
          Â
Following the 2016-17 season Bess transferred to Tyler Junior College, in Tyler, Texas. She was hampered by injuries during the season, but when she got on the court she was impressive. Bess averaged 6.2 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game in just nine games. Her season was highlighted by back-to-back games where she scored in double-digits and her first career double-double.
          Â
The run started against Hinds Community College where Bess scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting and she added seven rebounds to the mix. She then followed up that performance scoring a career-high 14 points against New Mexico Junior College and she grabbed five rebounds. Against Paris Junior College Bess recorded her first career double-double scoring 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting and she snagged a career-high 12 rebounds.
JAZMYN WOMACK: A native of Ponchatoula, La., Womack, a 5-foot-11 combo guard, played all four years of her high school basketball at Ponchatoula High School. This season she helped the Lady Wave go 31-4 (12-0) and they made a run into the second round of the 5A State Playoffs. During her freshman year the Ponchatoula High School Lady Wave won the 2014-15 5A State Championship.
Womack, a member of the Ponchatoula High School 1,000 point club, scored 600 points during her senior season, nailing 55 three-pointers. During her senior season she averaged 18 points per game and seven rebounds per game. Following the 2017-18 season, she was named to the District 6 - 5A District MVP and she was named First Team All-District. When not playing for PHS, Womack played for the Louisiana Lady Select AAU Team, and she participated on the East Team in the 2017-18 LHSBCA's All-Star Game.
"We're excited to get Jazmyn here and really start working with her," said Brodhead. "She's a great shooter who can play the stretch four for us, and once she starts working with the coaching staff she'll get stronger on defense and add depth and size to our backcourt."
