SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – In their second, and final, match of the weekend, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team lost to the UT Arlington Lady Mavericks, 4-1, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The loss was the Cajuns second of the weekend, and it drops their record to 14-9, while the Lady Mavs record improved to 9-7. Freshman Floriane Picaut got the Cajuns their lone win of the day in singles, a straight set win at No. 2.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Louisiana started the day off by dropping the doubles point, dropping both matches in the top two slots. It started at No. 1 when Picaut and fellow freshman Dana Radovanovic lost to the UTA pairing of Serio and Wichert, 6-1.
The Lady Mavs then locked up the doubles point at No. 2, with senior Kelly Drew and sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia losing to the Lady Mavs duo of Takeuchi and Horiguchi, 6-3. The two wins in doubles, gave UTA a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): UTA came out and took the first two matches in singles, starting with a win at No. 4 when senior Abby Johnson lost to UTA's Almudena Boza in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The Lady Mavs then got their next win at No. 3 when Momoka Horiguchi beat Radovanovic, 6-2, 6-1.
The Cajuns lone win on the day came at No. 2 when Picaut took down UTA's Anna Wichert in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. It put the score at 3-1, but the Lady Mavs would get the win with their next win.
UTA's clinching win came at No. 5, when Lucia Natal beat Garcia in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Garcia put up a fight in the first set, pushing things to a tiebreaker, but she couldn't take the breaker and fell in the second set, finishing off the day and it gave the Lady Mavs a 4-1 win.
UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana will head to New Orleans, La., to face Tulane on Friday, Apr. 13, in their final regular season match of 2018. The following week they'll head to Peachtree, Ga., for the start of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championships which start on Thursday, Apr. 19.
