Louisiana Gets Strong Performances At USM Open

Seven personal-bests set in Cajuns final tuneup before SBC Outdoor

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Shaquille Singuineau earned first-place honors in the men's shot put with Kyle Baudoin (men's pole vault) and Taylor Walker (women's triple jump) claiming second-place honors to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the Southern Miss Open that concluded on Saturday at the Southern Miss Track and Field and Soccer Complex.
 
Tisay Woodhouse continued on her stellar year in the women's hammer throw, eclipsing her school-record mark (173-11) with a throw of 178-7 and recording one of seven personal-bests by Ragin' Cajuns student-athletes. The senior added a fifth-place finish in the women's discus (140-5) in Louisiana's final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 11-13 in San Marcos, Texas.
 
Singuineau, who entered the two-day meet ranked No. 3 in the Sun Belt Conference in the shot put, led from wire-to-wire in the competition, posting a mark of 55-9 ¾ on his second attempt. The junior college transfer was one of three Ragin' Cajuns to finish in the top 10 as Zach Lewis placed seventh overall (49-6 ¼) and Dominique Williams ninth (48-2).
 
Baudoin cleared an outdoor season-best 16-11 1/2 to finish second overall. The junior, who cleared 17-0 at the SBC Indoor Championships, moved up 11 spots to No. 23 on the East Outdoor Qualifying List.
 
Walker cleared a season-best 40-3 ¼ in the women's triple jump to finish second for Louisiana while Alex Morrow finished fifth overall in the women's high jump (5-2 ¼).
 
Victoria Wayne clocked a personal-best time of 1:02.91 in the women's 400-meter hurdles for Louisiana with Vanessa Joseph finishing seventh (1:04.43). Erica Stewart posted a pair of top-10 finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns, finishing fifth in the women's 200-meter dash (25.49) and seventh in the 100 meters (12.32).
 
In the women's 800-meter run, freshman Teresa Brüning placed fourth overall with a time of 2:23.26 with Hannah Siegmund finishing fifth in the 400-meters (58.39).
 
Richard Delphin finished sixth overall in the men's discus (156-8) and seventh in the hammer throw (177-8) for Louisiana while Angus Sinclair was fourth overall in the men's high jump (6-7 ½). Dominique Williams set a personal-best in the men's hammer throw (168-11) for the Ragin' Cajuns with Chandler Mixon (120-9) and Sven Glueck (101-9) each setting personal-bests in the men's discus.
 
Freshman George Femmer posted a time of 4:07.23 to set a personal-best in the men's 1,500-meters for Louisiana and Kemondrick Walter clocked a personal-best time (10.56) in the men's 100-meters. The Ragin' Cajuns had two athletes earn top-5 finishes in the men's 3,000-meter run as Andre Bellard was fourth (9:21.00) and Regan Lemaire finished fifth (9:23.44).
