Louisiana Golf In Tenth After Round One At Sun Belt Conference Championship

SANDESTIN, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team finished the first round of the 2018 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship in tenth place with an overall score of 28-under par (312) on Sunday at the par-71, 6,900-yard Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Coastal Carolina leads the field with a score of 10-over (294). The Ragin' Cajuns are 14 strokes back of fourth place Texas State for the last match play spot.

Joao Girao of ULM, Tripp Summerlin of Appalachian State and Alvaro Carol Estrems of Texas State are tied for the individual lead at 1-under par (70).

Sliman's Thoughts

"This was obviously not the start that we wanted. It was a very difficult and challenging day with 10-over par leading field as the wind was gusting the whole round. At this time of the year, you would hope that is something that you could overcome. The good thing is that this is a three-day event, and there is still a lot of golf ahead of us. Hopefully we can get things going tomorrow and put ourselves back in contention to make the match play after 54 holes."

Elston In The Top 25

Junior Triston Elston is tied for 25th after the first round with a score of 5-over (76). Elston got off to a rough start, but played even in the final nine holes picking up a birdie on his last hole of the day.

Second Round Pairings

The Ragin' Cajuns are paired with Arkansas State and Little Rock for the second round. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. with Louisiana starting off of hole 10. Love scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
