Men's Tennis Heads To Georgia Southern

LAFAYETTE – After playing their final two home matches of the 2018 season the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team (17-8) will head out on the road for one final trip, starting in Statesboro, Ga., were they'll face their first Sun Belt Conference opponent of the season, the Georgia Southern Eagles, on Tuesday, Apr. 3 with the match scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. CT.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cajuns took care of business in their final two home matches of the 2018 season, sweeping Prairie View A&M in a senior day doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 30. The Cajuns won both matches without dropping a match in either match. Louisiana took the doubles point in the first half of the twin bill, and won all their singles matches in both matches, taking the first match, 7-0, and the second match, 6-0, to wrap up their 2018 home slate with two solid wins.
CAJUNS HAVE BEEN ON A ROLL: Louisiana enters its final week of the season ridding a six-match winning streak. During the streak they've beaten Southern Miss (Mar. 10) and New Orleans (Mar. 11) on the road. They then returned to Cajun Courts on Mar. 16 where they beat UT Rio Grande Valley, Alcorn State (Mar. 25) and they swept a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on (Mar. 30) for wins five and six.
LUCKY 13 FOR LAGO: Cajuns sophomore Elio Lago (16-6) has been on a crazy stretch, winning 13 straight singles matches over the past two months. Lago hasn't lost since Feb. 10 at Old Dominion and during the stretch he's only lost three sets, winning 10 out of the 13 matches in straight sets. Lago started the stretch playing at No. 5 singles, and he's since climbed up the ladder, playing at No. 2 during the past six matches.
HERE COME'S LIBAUD: Junior Arthur Libaud (12-9) has won his past seven matches in singles, going 8-2 over his past 10 matches. Libaud's last loss came against UTSA on Mar. 3, and during his seven-match winning streak Libaud has not lost a set, winning all of his matches during the past month in straight sets. Since Feb. 13, Libaud has dropped only five sets, as he's gotten hot during the final stretch of the season.
DOLAN AND FRASER JUST KEEP WINNING: Sophomores Jamie Fraser (9-10) and Pearse Dolan (15-4) have each won five straight matches. Fraser is 7-2 in his past 10 matches, and Dolan is 8-1 over the last 10 matches. Fraser is 6-1 at No. 6 and Dolan is 4-0 at No. 3, while Dolan also sits at 5-2 at both No. 4 and No. 5.
STILL THE BEST IN THE SUN BELT: Louisiana's overall record of 17-8 still ranks them far and above the rest of the Sun Belt Conference. The next closest team in wins is South Alabama who's record sits at 11-8.
SHADES OF 2014: Louisiana's 17 wins is the most they've had since the 2016 season and the Cajuns are on pace to match the 20 wins they had in their 2014 SBC title winning season, where they finished 20-5 and made a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
WHAT THE EAGLES BRING: Georgia Southern enters the match sitting at 13-10 having won their last two matches, both of which were against SBC opponents. The first being vs. Georgia State (Mar. 30) and their second win was against Appalachian State on Mar. 31.Â

This season the Eagles have played three conference opponents, going 3-1 in those matches. Along with their wins against Georgia State and App State, the Eagles beat Coastal Carolina on Mar. 17. The lone loss against a SBC team came against Troy on Mar. 27.

Louisiana and Georgia Southern haven't met on the courts since, 2015, when the Cajuns beat the Eagles, 4-0, in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in New Orleans, La. All-time the Cajuns are 2-1 against the Eagles and this is the first trip the Cajuns have ever made to Statesboro.
