Louisiana will begin the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championships against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday, Apr. 19.
NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team (14-10) were seeded eight out of 11, as today the Sun Belt Conference announced the seedings for the SBC Women's Tennis Championships, which start on Thursday, Apr. 19 in Peachtree, Ga.
WHEN IT ALL KICKS OFF: Louisiana will play in the first match of the championships, facing off with the No. 9 seeded Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday, Apr. 19 with that match scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. CT.
HOW TO LISTEN/TRACK/WATCH: Live stats will be provided by the Sun Belt Conference for all the matches in Peachtree City, and the first two days will be covered on the radio (RadioTennis.com). The semifinals and finals will be broadcast on ESPN3 and links for all the coverage can be found on RaginCajuns.com.
CAJUNS WIN LIKE ITS 2013: Louisiana's 14 wins are the most they've had since finishing the 2013 season with 14-12. But unlike that 2013 season, the Cajuns had only 13 wins heading into the conference championships making the 14 wins the most they've had in the regular season since, the 15 regular season wins they finished with in 2008.
WHO LED THE CAJUNS: Sophomore Marina Rodriguez Garcia finished the season with the most wins in singles, finishing with a 12-7 record for the Cajuns. But freshman Floriane Picaut was impressive this season finishing with an 11-6 record in singles, just one win behind Garcia.            Louisiana got a highlight win in singles when senior Kelly Drew stepped up to the plate and knocked off then nationally ranked No. 90 Alexandria Stiteler of South Alabama in straight sets, 7-6(6), 6-4, to give the Cajuns their best singles win of the season.
          Â
In doubles the Cajuns were strong, and they were led by Drew and Garcia who finished with an 11-4 record on the season, going 9-3 at No. 3. Louisiana's freshmen pairing of Picaut and Dana Radovanovic were impressive throughout the season, finishing one off of double digits recording a 9-7 record, going 8-5 at No. 2.
IF THE CAJUNS WIN: If Louisiana wins their first-round match, they'll move onto the quarterfinals where they'll match up with the No. 1 seeded Troy Trojans on Friday, Apr. 20 with that match scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m. CT.
