Women's Tennis Faces Texas State And ULM In Monroe
3/23/2018 11:31:00 AM | Women's Tennis
LAFAYETTE – It's been a while since taking the courts, but the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team returns to action this weekend with a trip to Monroe, La., where they'll face off with a pair of Sun Belt Conference schools starting with the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday, Mar. 24 and the hosting ULM Warhawks on Sunday, Mar. 25.
TRACKING THE ACTION: The match against Texas State starts at 10 a.m., and the match against ULM begins at 10 a.m. Live stats won't be provided but look to twitter (@RaginCajunsWT) for updates during both matches over the weekend as the Cajuns look to get things rolling in Monroe.
IT'S BEEN A PAIR OF WEEKS: Due to the cancellation and postponement of the Cajuns home doubleheader against Jackson State on Mar. 20, the Cajuns haven't played a match since the weekend of Mar. 10-12 when they travelled to Texas, taking on Prairie View A&M where they swept the Panthers in a doubleheader in Prairie View A&M, Texas. And they wrapped up the trip with a visit to the No. 69 Houston Cougars in Houston, Texas where they dropped that match.
DREW IS CRUISING TO THE FINISH LINE: Senior Kelly Drew is coming towards the finish line in her career, and she's currently rolling right now. She's won her last five matches in singles, and she's won six of her last two. In doubles, she's snagged 10 wins, when factoring in the fall slate she played, and 13 wins in singles when including that same fall schedule.
CAJUNS SURPASS LAST SEASON: Louisiana got win's number nine and 10 over the weekend of Mar. 10-12 in Texas, their last weekend of action, and that pushes them past the eight wins that they had in all of the 2017 season. They're just one win an away from matching their 11-win total in 2016 and they've blown by their four wins that they got in 2015.
WHAT THE BOBCATS BRING: Texas State will first take on Arkansas State on Friday, Mar. 23 before facing the Cajuns on Saturday. The Bobcats, who enter the weekend sitting at 3-9, dropped their first seven matches of the season before grabbing their first win against Prairie View A&M. They've since gone back and forth in wins and losses over the next five matches, winning their last match against CS Northridge.
          Â
Louisiana lost both matches they played against the Bobcats last season, both at neutral sites, and the Cajuns last won against the Bobcats in 2016 when they went to San Marcos, Texas and won 4-2. These teams have only faced off in Lafayette once, in 2006, a 4-1 win for the Cajuns and in the state of Louisiana the Cajuns are 1-2 against the Bobcats. Both teams have faced off in New Orleans, in the SBC Championships, and that was where they had their last meeting.
WHAT THE WARHAWKS BRING: The hosting Warhawks, will open their weekend with UT Arlington, on Friday, Mar. 23, and they enter the weekend sitting at 7-4. ULM has won their past three matches and five out of their last six. This will be the first time in just about a month since the Warhawks will have played a match at home, with their last match in Monroe being on Feb. 26, a 4-1 win over McNeese.
          Â
It's been a while since the Cajuns have beaten the Warhawks, as Louisiana has lost their last eight meetings against ULM, with their last win being a 6-1 win in Lafayette on Mar. 22, 2009. Overall the Cajuns are 15-23 all-time against ULM and they last won in Monroe on Apr. 12, 2008 when the Cajuns took down ULM 6-1.
