LAFAYETTE, La. – After spending over a week on the road, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to host Troy in the Sun Belt Conference home opening series starting Friday at 6 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Game two of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, while the two clubs meet in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Alumni from the 1978 team, the first team to play at Moore Field, will be honored at Saturday's contest. Additionally, the first 1,500 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a commemorative Russo Park t-shirt as the Russo Family will be honored for their contributions to the program.

The Series
The Ragin' Cajuns own a 31-14 lead over Troy in the all-time series having won eight of the last 10 meetings and 13 of the last 16 contests in the series. Louisiana took two of three from the Trojans a year ago winning 6-5 and 7-2 around a 5-7 defeat at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Cajuns are 17-7 all-time at home against Troy with the first meeting in the series coming in 1998.
Scouting Louisiana
Louisiana (9-11, 1-2 SBC) is coming off of a 5-2 win over McNeese in the midweek as the squad wrapped up its five-game road trip with a 3-2 mark. The Ragin' Cajuns are 4-4 at Russo Park this season despite dropping two of three to South Alabama two weeks ago.
Offensively, the Cajuns are hitting .211 as a team with 24 doubles, four triples and five home runs. Junior Gavin Bourgeois has a team-best .316 average with four doubles and seven RBI, while Hunter Kasuls has a team-high 13 RBI coming on three doubles, a triple and two home runs.
The Ragin' Cajuns come into the series ranked sixth in the nation and first in the Sun Belt in fielding percentage at .985. The Louisiana pitching staff has turned in seven quality starts this season led by sophomore Jack Burk with three.
Scouting Troy
Troy (14-7, 1-2 SBC) has won eight of its last 10 contests coming into the series after defeating Samford 14-2 on Tuesday. The two losses came to Little Rock at home in the Trojans conference opening weekend. All three contests were decided by two runs as Little Rock won 3-1 on Friday and Sunday, while Troy claimed a 2-0 decision on Saturday.
The Trojans have played only six games away from home so far this season posting a 2-4 record on the road. Troy is hitting .266 as a club with 34 doubles, nine triples and 19 home runs while averaging 6.5 runs per game.
Joey Denison paces the club offensively hitting .369 and ranks second in the Sun Belt with eight doubles and 28 RBI. Matt Sanders is also having a solid campaign with a .350 average including five doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI.

Louisiana opens its longest road trip of the season on Tuesday as the Ragin' Cajuns head to Metairie, La. for a 7 p.m. midweek clash with No. 15 LSU in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic at the Shrine on Airline. Following the matchup with the Tigers, the Cajuns continue their six-game road swing at Arkansas State on Thursday, March 29 in the first of three games in Jonesboro, Ark.
