Cajuns Off To Successful Start At Annual Louisiana Classics

Basic claims javelin crown in 2018 debut; Robinson, Hodges claim steeplechase crown
LAFAYETTE – Tisay Woodhouse posted the second-best throw in school history in the women's hammer throw while Bartul Basic claimed the men's javelin with the third-best throw in school history to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team during the first day of the annual Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
The meet concludes on Saturday at 10 a.m., with field events with running events set for 2:30 p.m. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
Woodhouse posted a personal-best throw of 168 feet, 3 inches to finish seventh overall for the Ragin' Cajuns. In the men's hammer throw, Dominique Williams posted a mark of 164-8 to finish fifth for Louisiana.
Freshman Mackenzie Marze posted the third-best throw in school history in the women's javelin after finishing second overall for Louisiana with a throw of 150-11. Claire Meyers earned a fifth-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns (135-7) with Madison Meche placing sixth (125-6).
Basic, the two-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion, made his 2018 debut a successful one after posting the second-best throw in the country (232-9). The senior led a trio of Ragin' Cajuns to top-six finishes as Hunter Stelly placed fifth in his debut (207-6) with Sean Bouzigard sixth (189-5).
Louisiana placed three athletes in the top-five in the women's pole vault with Alexa Johnson finishing third (12-0 ½), Bailey Broussard fourth (11-6 ½) and Kimberly Rushford fifth (11-6 ½).
The Ragin' Cajuns claimed individual titles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as Beau Robinson claimed the men's title (9:08.86) with Claire Hodges claiming the women's crown (11:05.97). Regan Lemaire earned a sixth-place finish for Louisiana (10:03.21) with Dylan Heck placing eighth (10:14.30).
Kemondrick Walter earned an eighth-place time for the Ragin' Cajuns in the men's 200-meter dash after posting a time of 21.88.
