Cajuns return eight letterwinners; five starters from 19-14 team

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot announced on Wednesday the addition of four newcomers to the 2014 roster.

Joining the Ragin' Cajuns are junior college product Calvineka Lockhart (Houston, Texas), Stephanie Cloke (Katy, Texas), Brienna Hill (Berwick, La.) and Maddie White (The Woodlands, Texas).  The addition of the four newcomers increased the Ragin' Cajuns newcomer class to eight.

"The best thing about our newcomers is that they are super athletic," Mazeitis-Fontenot said. "What they bring to the table is size, athleticism and a lot of experience. They know how to win, they're used to winning and we hope they can bring that to our program."

Lockhart, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Ragin' Cajuns after transferring from Iowa Western Community College. In her lone season at IWCC, Lockhart totaled 387 kills and 112 blocks and helped the team to a 44-5 record and a seventh-place finish in the 2013 NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

She played as a freshman at Temple (Texas) College where she was named a first-team All-NTJCAC performer after leading the team in kills (377) and blocks (125).

Cloke, a 6-3 outside hitter, was a team captain and second-team all-district selection at Cinco Ranch High School. She helped lead CRHS to a pair of district championships and helped her club team (Fort Bend Fire) to a bronze medal in the American Division at the USA Volleyball Nationals.

Hill, a 5-9 outside hitter, was a first-team all-district and Division III All-State selection as a senior at Berwick High School. A four-time all-district selection, Hill helped BHS to a pair of district titles and a state semifinal appearance in 2011.

White, a 5-11 outside hitter, helped The Woodlands High School to a 45-0 record, the Class 5A state championship in Texas and a No. 1 national ranking by Max Preps. A two-time all-district selection, White was named the team's Freshman MVP in 2010 and JV MVP in 2011. Competing for the Woodlands Wave Volleyball Club, White helped her team to a pair of bronze medals at the USA Volleyball Nationals.

Louisiana, which finished 19-14 overall on the season, returns eight letterwinners and five starters. The Ragin' Cajuns will open the season Aug. 29-30 at the Adidas Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas facing Fresno State, Rice and UC Davis.
