Team wraps up third week of spring drills; returns to practice on Tuesday

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up its third week of spring practice on Saturday morning as the team held its first workout inside Cajun Field, with the closed session capped by a 41-play situational scrimmage.

The Cajuns worked on all phases of their game during the two-hour workout before conducting live drills in first-and-10, third-down and goal-line situations. The Cajuns' defense had the upper hand in the scrimmage, outscoring the offense, 25-16, with points awarded for key stops.

"It was a solid day," head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "Defensively, we did some good things. I thought both sides of the ball played hard in our first live work that we've really had this spring. We didn't scrimmage a lot of plays, but overall it was a good day."

The offense came up with a score in goal-line drills when Terrance Broadway connected with Jared Johnson on a 10-yard scoring pass.

"We finished up with a goal-line scrimmage and the offense came up with a score," Hudspeth said, "but the defense won the scrimmage with our scoring system and we'll come back with our second scrimmage next week."

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to practice on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., and will hold its annual Red-White Spring Game on April 12 at noon.
