LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team jumped back into the ITA rankings moving into the 67th spot in the latest poll, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.
"This is a total team effort that we are only in the beginning stages of," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "From assistant coach Luc Godin, to all the players on the team, we are only getting started. We are a long way from our best tennis, but the guys are making strides toward it. That's all you can hope for."
The Cajuns (8-2) last appearance in the ITA Top 75 came on Feb. 25, 2013. Louisiana's highest ranking under coach Jeffrey was 44 back in 2012.
"This program has been inside the national rankings a lot in the last three years," Jeffrey noted "I really feel like the guys are committed to competing at a higher level each and every practice which is what we need to move higher. Right now we are the highest ranked program in the state of Louisiana ahead of LSU and Tulane. That speaks volumes to the direction of where our kids are athletically."
Louisiana returns to action on Friday at the HEB Tournament of Champions in Corpus Chrisit, Texas. For more info on Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis follow the squad on twitter @CajunMensTennis.
