HOUSTON, Texas – After a hot start to the day, the Louisiana golf team found itself in a tie for 13th at the completion of the first round at the 2014 Bayou City Collegiate Championships on Friday at The Golf Club of Houston.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns carded a score of 7-over par (295) through 18 holes to finish in a tie for 13th with Houston Baptist.
Â
"We got off to a really good start today through nine holes, but we didn't handle ourselves as good as we could have on the backside," head coach Theo Sliman said. "It's a tight leaderboard right now. A couple shots can move a team up or down the board greatly. Hopefully we can get come back out tomorrow refocused and make a move."
Â
No. 15 Houston leads the field after the first day at 8-under (280). No. 21 Texas (-3, 285), No. 19 Arkansas (-1, 287), No. 29 South Carolina (E, 288), No. 31 Baylor (E, 288) and Rice (E, 288) round out the top 5 teams.
Â
Houston's Wesley McClain and South Carolina's Caleb Sturgeon are tied for the individual lead at 4-under (68).

Â
Fernando Cruz Valle and Ross Davis round out the scoring for Louisiana in a tie for 56th at 3-over (75).
Â
"I am very proud of the way Ross and Christian finished up their rounds," Sliman mentioned. "Christian looked very comfortable out there and played a very even keel round."
