Sophomore recorded league's top mark in the high jump to claim first honors

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field standout Lindsey Harmon was named Wednesday as the Sun Belt Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week in a release by the league office.

Harmon, a Lafayette native and former Teurlings Catholic product, recorded the Sun Belt's best performance in the women's high jump this season after posting a mark of 5 feet, 7.25 inches to claim first-place honors at the Samford Multi and Invitational last weekend in Birmingham, Ala.

"Lindsey got off to a slow start to the indoor season, but is starting to put things together at the right time as we get ready for the Sun Belt Championships later this month," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "She is very deserving of this honor."

The first-place finish was the second of the indoor season for Harmon, who captured the high jump title at the season-opening Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational on Jan. 17.

Harmon is the second member of the Ragin' Cajuns track and field team to claim Sun Belt weekly honors, joining Justin Victor who was named the league's Male Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 22.

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action when it returns to Birmingham to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 24-25 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
