LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana women's tennis team is set to open the 2014 season on Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Ragin' Cajuns host Jackson State at Cajun Courts.
Admission to the contest is free, and the contest will take part in conjunction with the men's tennis dual match against Jackson State. Fans unable to attend can watch the feature court live on RaginCajuns.com.
"We are excited to host Jackson State for our opening match of the 2014 season," head coach Greg Harkins said. "Coach Pennington is doing a great job with his program and we know they will be well prepared bringing a tough fight to the match.
"Our team is looking forward to this weekend. We know the next few months will be filled with many challenges, but we will learn and grow along the way. Our squad is young with no seniors and one junior but already have a lot of experience from last season. We will work hard representing the program, university and community to the best of our availability. It's time to begin this years journey and get the season started."
The Cajuns are looking to build upon a 14-12 record from a year ago and are led by sophomore Nicole Breaux who posted a 12 wins in her first season. Junoir Nelo Phiri will make her dual match debut against the Tigers. Phiri was part of two national championship runs at Tyler Junior College.
