Cajuns Golf Opens 2013-14 Season At Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss – An all underclassmen lineup will get the season started as the Ragin' Cajuns golf team opens the 2013 fall season on Monday at the 11th Annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss. The 54-hole tournament is being held at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
 
"We are very excited to start the season off here in Hattiesburg," head golf coach Theo Sliman said. "The team has been competing very hard at home last week and are ready for the challenge that is ahead. Hattiesburg Country Club is a great and challenging course. We certainly need to stay patient against this field."
 
Action starts at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with the first and second rounds to be played on the first day. The final round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate is slated to start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
 
Sophomores Thomas Strandemo, Ross Davis, Christian Verrougstraete return to the lineup for the Cajuns. Davis had a strong spring season a year ago finishing in the top 25 in his final three tournaments including a sixth place showing at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
 
Newcomers Haraldur Magnus and Fernando Cruz Valle make their debut for Louisiana at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, while Jason Noto will compete as an individual.
 
"I am really excited to see Haraldur Magnus and Fernando Cruz Valle in action," Sliman added. "They are two big additions to the program and have the potential to be fixtures in the lineup for us."
 
The Sam Hall Intercollegiate field includes host Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Houston Baptist, Jackson State, Louisiana, ULM, Mercer, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Rice, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, Southeastern, Tennessee Tech and UTSA.
 
The Cajuns finished in eighth at the tournament a year ago with departed seniors Brandt Garon and Yohann Vora placing in the top 25 at the event.
