GÖHREN-LEBBIN, Germany – Former Ragin' Cajuns golf standout Philipp Fendt finished in a tie for second at the First Qualifying Stage carding a four-round score of 14-under par (274) at the Golf & Country Club Fleesensee in Göhren-Lebbin, Germany.
Â
With the performance, Fendt was one of 24 golfers to advance to the Second Qualifying Stage as he continues his quest to earn a spot on the European Tour.
Â
"After I had been out for three months due to a back injury, it was uncertain whether I could participate in any tournaments this fall," Fendt said. "Thanks to my doctors I was able to start practicing again, and in the third week of August and signed up for Q School last minute.
Â
"Going into Q School my game and body both felt better than ever even though I had only been practicing for three weeks. I took perfect advantage of the first tee time on the first day and shot a 67 right out the gates."
Â
After rounds of 69 and 72, the Vienna, Austria native went on to shoot a 66 (-6) in the final round to seal the progression to the next round. Fendt was a fixture in the Ragin' Cajuns lineup from 2008-12 posting a strong 73.08 scoring average in four years.
Â
Fendt is coming off of a tournament title at Austrian Professional Golfers Championship where he shot rounds of 67, 70 and 63 to win by five strokes.
Â
"It has been two really great weeks, which have given me loads of confidence for second stage of Q School," Fendt added.
