Huyton Joins Cajuns Men’s Tennis

LAFAYETTE, La. – William Huyton of Stamford, England has joined the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis squad this fall, head coach Mark Jeffrey announced on Friday.

Huyton is a top 500 ITF player who brings a great deal of upside to the program.

"This is a great addition for us," Jeffrey said. "In the past 12 months, William has beaten guys inside the top 180 ITF and has done very well pushing guys inside the top 150 ITF. He has also won a Grade 5 in doubles, so he comes with the ability to play both singles and doubles.

"William has a great energy and is just fun to be around. You feel the positive energy when you are around him as he is just eager to get better and be able to play and train in a full time environment."

The English native posted a 9-7 record in singles in 2012 including an appearance in the semifinals of the Epetion Cup. In his career, Huyton has notched 24 wins in singles.

"William is going to add to our depth that we already have on the team," Jeffrey mentioned. "We look forward to Williams progress over the fall semester. He is a guy that could really improve quickly as he has really good athletic ability as well.

"I know Will is grateful to his family for helping him with this opportunity. A special thank you to William's mother Heather and father Andrew for working very hard through the process. William has a great team behind him at home and we aim to give William the tools he needs to excel here in the US. We are excited to start working together and improving immediately."
