LAFAYETTE, La. – The Cajuns scored six runs in the first inning, highlighted by Sara Corbello's first career grand slam, en route to a 7-5 victory and a three-game sweep of FIU on Saturday, March 30 at Lamson Park.  The Cajuns improved to 22-11 and 5-4 in Sun Belt play.

“I like the way we fought.”  Coach Michael Lotief said after the sweep.  “It's important that we win these battles. When you start to win these battles you will win the bigger ones too. It is important that we learn to close a team out.  They kept punching, fighting and they weren't going to go away. “

With two runs already plated in the first, Corbello came to bat with the bases loaded and sent a no-doubter to left center field for her first career grand slam to put the Cajuns up early, 6-0.  She finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk and a career-high four RBI.

“Yesterday they were throwing in [on her homerun], and I didn't expect it to happen again today.”  Corbello said after her career day.  “That is what I've been working on all week.  I just wanted a line drive base hit.”

Sarah Draheim picked up two RBI on the day as well, and continued her impressive weekend at the plate.  She drove in Brianna Cherry with a double in the first inning to initiate the scoring and finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored on top of her two RBI.

“They came out with a good mindset.” Coach Lotief said.  “It doesn't matter when you score, it's all about competing in every at bat.”

Jordan Wallace picked up her 13th win of the season and is now 13-6 on the year.  She tossed her 14th complete game of the season, allowing three earned runs on six hits and five walks, while striking out five.  She now has struck out 157 batters and is just ten shy of her total for all of last season.

FIU got a big day at the plate from Jessy Alfonso.  Alfonso went 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and three runs batted in.  Her home runs came in the fourth and sixth innings, the only two innings the Panthers scored.

The Cajuns will take to the road for a six-game road trip.  They will start with a doubleheader at the nations top ranked team, the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday April 3 at 5:00 P.M.  They will then travel to #19 Tulsa for a single game on Thursday, April 4 at 6:00 P.M.  They resume conference play over the weekend, with three games against North Texas on Saturday and Sunday.
