HOUSTON, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team posted a second consecutive 4-0 day in the second round at the USTA Houston Futures Event on Sunday to remain unblemished in the singles qualifier.
In two days, the Cajuns have gone a combined 8-0 and have only dropped three sets.
"We came out today and had another consistent day," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "I felt that all the guys had a good mentality and that it was going to be a long day. They were patient and prepared for long points."
Jake Wynan was first out of the gate with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Aron Pierce from the USA advancing to his bracket final.
Sophomore Edgar Lopez was the second Louisiana player to move on to a bracket final with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Romanian Alexandru Gasca-Silav.
"Edgar started a little slow today, but got it together at the right time," Jeffrey stated.
Jarred Wynan and Damian Farinola also moved out to their bracket finals as Wynan defeated Karim Arem 6-2, 7-6, while Farinola notched a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Lukas Clemens from Germany.
"Jarred played consistent tennis," Jeffrey added. "Damian had a hard fought victory and was pretty intense the whole way through. He showed good concentration all the way."
