LAFAYETTE, La. – For the sixth time in Ragin' Cajuns softball history, UL has six members selected to the 2012 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region Teams, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday. A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.

The Cajuns (49-4) are one five teams to have six players selected to all-region teams. Christi Orgeron, Katie Smith, Natalie Fernandez, Nerissa Myers and Jordan Wallace earned First Team honors, while Ashley Brignac was recognized on the Second Team.

Orgeron, the Sun Belt Player of the Year, made the All-Region Team for the third time in her career. The conference's all-time RBI leader tops the nation with 91 RBI this season and sits sixth on the NCAA career charts with 285.

Smith garners her first all-region selection after leading the conference in batting average (.425) and hits (74). The First Team All-Sun Belt member ranks sixth nationally in runs scored per game (1.18) and is third all-time in school history with 88 career stolen bases.

The sophomore Fernandez collects her first all-region award, posting a batting average of .416 and a .489 on base percentage in 53 games this year. In her first year starting at third base, Fernandez has committed just six errors in 133 chances.

Myers hit .390 on the year and led the Cajuns with a .517 on base percentage. She leads the nation with 76 runs scored and is two away from breaking the SBC record of 77, which she tied last season. The junior also ranks third nationally, with 74 RBI.

Rounding out the First Team members is Wallace, who was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. The Weatherford, Texas native set an NCAA mark for a freshman pitcher to begin her career at 23-0. Wallace leads the conference with 25 wins on the year and is second in opposing batting average at .180.

Brignac receives her third second team all-region selection after posting a record of 21-3 on the season. The fifth-year senior ranks second all-time in school history in strikeouts (837), winning percentage (.821) and strikeouts per seven innings (8.34). The 2012 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year is third all-time in SBC history with 92 career victories.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

The 2012 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 30, on NFCA.org.
