HOUSTON - The Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team participated in the prestigious F.A.S.T. Complex Collegiate Invitational at the Reliant Center on Saturday and came out on the winning side in three of the four matches the squad competed in.

The best 2-of-3 formatted event gave the Cajuns a chance to showcase the program to the Ragin' Cajuns alumni base in the Houston area, and the squad responded with an outstanding effort.

Louisiana took Big 12-member Baylor to three sets in the opener. The Cajuns claimed the opening set 25-21, but the Bears bounced back with 25-18 and 15-8 victories in the second and third set to claim the match.

UL bounced back in the next outing, topping the homestanding University of Houston Cougars 25-18, 26-24 for the first of three consecutive straight sets sweeps to finish off the tournament.

In the afternoon session the Cajuns topped UTSA 25-13, 25-21 and bested SMU in the finale 25-20, 25-18.

"Lavinia (Tataran) and Andrea (Hole) were stellar on the day. Lavinia played the best I have seen her and it is really exciting to think about the fall season," head coach Heather Mazeitis said. "Kelly Wiesmann has made great strides and is turning into a dominant outside hitter.

"The girls are excited about their progress and felt that they had a good day. Overall, it was a very fun day. We had a great fan turnout and we appreciate their support," Mazeitis added.

Joining the Cajuns at the event were teams from Baylor, Houston, LSU, Lamar, North Texas, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, Sam Houston State, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Wichita State and UTSA.

The F.A.S.T. Complex Collegiate Invitational marked the Cajuns' third tournament of the 2012 spring season. The Cajuns hosted a tournament at Earl K. Long Gym on March 17 and took part in the LSU Spring Tournament on March 24.

The Cajuns are finished with outside competition this spring. The team's final event of the spring session takes place Wednesday at Volleybeach in Lafayette with the first-ever "UL Queen of the Beach" doubles tournament. Each player will be partnered with another until they have all played one set, with the winner of the most sets being tabbed "Queen of the Beach".
