The Ragin' Cajuns golf team has some work to do on the final day of the 27th Annual Louisiana Classics as UL finds its self in a tie for sixth place after posting a two-round total of 576 (E) on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club.
“I'm proud of the fact that we moved up after the morning round,” said head coach Theo Sliman. “We just didn't quite get the move that we were anticipating. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to place well against a great field. We need to stick to process, patience and perseverance, which was our goal at the beginning of the week.”
The Cajuns sit nine strokes back of No.43 Memphis for the third spot in the tournament. No.25 LSU leads the event with a 36-hole score of 562 (-14).
Philipp Fendt and Chris Weninger lead the way for Louisiana as they are both tied for 11th overall at three-under par (141).
“I am extremely proud of the way both Chris and Philipp bounced back and finished the second round strong,” Sliman added. “One of our main focuses on this team is to finish off each round, and both of these men finished their last six holes under par.”
Senior Andrew Noto is currently in a tie for 39th after carding a score of 146 (+2). Kelsey Angelle (+4 - 148) and Brandt Garon (+6 - 150) round out the scores for the Cajuns.
“These guys have done a good job of handling the pressure of playing at home,” Sliman said. “I have the utmost confidence that this team is going to learn from today and apply tomorrow.”
Yohan Vora had a good two-day total as an individual as he sits in a tie for 33rd after posting a score of one-over par (145).
No.25 LSU (562), No. 21 Kent State (566), No.43 Memphis (567), No.45 SMU (569) and Tulsa (574) round out the top 5 teams. LSU's Andrew Presley tops the individual leaderboard at eight-under par (136).
Third round action tees off at 8 a.m. tomorrow at Oakbourne Country Club with the trophy presentation to take place at approximately 1:30 p.m.
