No.47 Cajuns Roll to 7-0 sweep of Marist

LAFAYETTE, La. - The 47th ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four games after sweeping Marist in a dual match on Tuesday afternoon at Cajun Courts.

“We were a scrappy team today,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “I give Marist a lot of credit. They came out to play today and didn't back down. Our guys didn't play their best tennis, but what I like to see is that they are always figuring out a way to win. We are problem solving every single point. Overall it was a gutsy performance throughout the entire line up today.”

The Cajuns (11-5) swept the doubles point winning all three matches. Freshmen Damian Farinola and Jarred Wynan got things going for UL with an impressive 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles

Brandon Farine and Yanick Mandl clinched the doubles point with their 8-5 win at No.1.

In singles play, the Cajuns carried over the momentum as Rick DeGroot was first to come off of the court defeating Lorenzo Rossi 6-4, 6-2.

Farinola gave Louisiana a 3-0 lead after picking up a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory at No.3 singles. Mandl clinched the match for the Cajuns at No.2 defeating Joris Van Eck 6-1, 6-4.

At No.5 singles, Ted Nilsson recorded his fourth straight win downing Dalen Klassen 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), while Wynan and Elliot Minvielle both battled to come from behind to win in three sets.

“I was happy for Elliot Minvielle Coming back from a set down, as did Jarred Wynan,” Jeffrey said. “I liked that Yanick came out very aggressive. Also Damian Farinola was mentally tough today, and Ted Nilsson finished strong in his match. Now we have to get ready for St. John's on Friday.”

UL returns to action on Friday at 2 p.m. when they host No.75 St. John's in the last of five straight home matches at Cajun Courts.
