Women's Hoops to Face FIU in Opening Round of SBC Tournament

The Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team drew FIU in the opening round of the 2012 Sun Belt Women's Basketball Tournament, it was revealed after the league office released the tournament schedule and seeding order on Sunday evening.
Louisiana (7-22, 1-15 Sun Belt) ended the regular season as the No. 6 seed from the Sun Belt West division. FIU (20-9, 10-6 Sun Belt) finished the year as the No. 3 seed from the Sun Belt East division.
The contest between the two schools will be held at Noon on Saturday, March 3 inside the Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark.
The Ragin' Cajuns and Panthers met once this season with FIU posting a 78-48 victory at the Cajundome back on Jan. 14. FIU shot 55 percent for the game and was led by Jerica Coley (22 points) and Fanni Hutlassa (21 points) who combine for 43 points.
Louisiana and FIU last met in the SBC Tournament in 2007 when the event was held at the Cajundome. The Cajuns won that meeting 67-49 and went on to advance to the championship game under the direction of former head coach J. Kelley Hall.
Top seeds and divisional champions Middle Tennessee and UALR highlight the field of all 12 member institutions for the championship that will be held March 3-6 in Hot Springs, Ark.
UALR and MT along with Denver and Florida Atlantic earned byes into the quarterfinals of the tournament championship.
The first round and the quarterfinals of the championship will take place March 3 and 4 with the league utilizing a two court system as games will be played in Summit Arena and the Convention Center Court. The semifinals and championship game will be played exclusively in Summit Arena.
The first round games can be viewed exclusively on www.sunbeltsports.org as SBC Extra will webcast those games. The quarterfinal games taking place in Summit Arena will be aired on the Sun Belt Network, while the Convention Center Court quarterfinals will be shown on SBC Extra. Both semifinal matchups will be aired on the Sun Belt Network with the championship match being broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
