The Ragin' Cajuns football team is set to make their first bowl appearance in 40 years this weekend when they face San Diego State in the 2011 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

The Cajuns and Aztecs are slated to kick off at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in a nationally televised broadcast that will air on ESPN and ESPN 3D. Brock Huard will call the action with Carter Blackburn providing analysis and Shelley Smith on the sidelines. Click here to view the Cajuns Bowl Guide.

Cox4, the flagship for the Ragin' Cajuns TV Network, will host a 30-minute pre-game show live from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome just before the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl for those who are not able to be in attendance. Ragin Cajuns: A Season to Believe will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 17 and air live on Cox Channel 4 in 17 Louisiana parishes, reaching more than 500,000 customers.

Louisiana (8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt) will face its first-ever Mountain West Conference opponent in San Diego State. The Cajuns are 5-1 against current members of the Mountain West with the last meeting against a current MWC opponent coming in 1994 when UL defeated UNLV 28-27 at Cajun Field.

The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off of a hard fought 45-37 loss at Arizona. UL held an early lead against the Wildcats, but had to play from behind in the second half.

Quarterback Blaine Gautier is one touchdown pass away from setting a new Ragin' Cajuns single season passing touchdown record. He is currently tied with Jake Delhomme for the record with 20 on the season.

Gautier, an All-SBC second team honoree, ranks first in the Sun Belt in passing efficiency (150.3) second in touchdown passes (20). Gautier is one of 11 UL players that were listed on the 2011 All-Sun Belt football team earlier this month. Javone Lawson, Ladarius Green,

Bernard Smith, Lance Kelley and Dwight “Bill” Bentley all earned first team honors, while Alonzo Harris was tabbed the 2011 Freshman of the Year.

Head coach Mark Hudspeth is just one win away from tying the school record for wins in a season. Hudspeth already set a record for wins by a first year head coach at UL with eight.
