Men's Tennis Finishes Fall Season Strong

The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team recently closed out the 2011 Fall Season at the 2nd Annual Pensacola Futures Championship held at the Roger Scott Tennis Center in Pensacola, Fla.
“This was a great experience for our guys,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “To be able to compete with professionals from around the world only helps the team prepare at a high level”.
UL athletes faced several professional athletes from around the world in the tournament, as the event gave the Cajuns not only a chance to prepare for the Spring season, but also a chance to earn a world ranking.
Carl Alberton led the way for Louisiana posting two wins at the event including a three set thriller over Rodrigo Valls of Spain, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4.
“I was very proud of Carl after coming back to win his first match,” Jeffrey added. “He fell behind 3-0 in the third, but he showed a lot of heart to finish strong. I was also happy with the play of Ted Nilsson even though he lost in a close three setter. He is improving and working hard of late.”
Elliot Minvielle, Yanick Mandl and Damian Farinola also picked up wins for the Cajuns at the tournament.
“I was also proud of Damian Farinola who played a tough match against one of the best recruits in the country this year,” Jeffrey added. “All in all I was proud of the guy's effort and commitment that they will now use to be able to achieve our goals in the Spring Season.”
The Cajuns return to action on Jan. 20, 2012 when they open the spring season at Baylor in Waco, Texas.
