Head Ragin' Cajuns golf coach Theo Sliman announced that Ross Davis and Christian Verrougstraete have signed a National Letter of Intent for the 2012-13 season on Tuesday.
“I look forward to seeing these two guys in action next year,” Sliman said. “They are both very talented and will certainly make an impact immediately for us. More importantly than their golf accomplishments, I am honored to bring in two men with class and honor that will represent this university well.”
Verrougstraete, a native of Reunion Island, is currently ranked No. 42 in the French Amatuer Ranking and is a member of the French Junior Team. He also holds a World Amateur Ranking of 1,975, which is high for a pre-collegiate golfer.
In 2011, Verrougstraete has posted wins at the French Amateur Club Team Championship (73-72) and the Grand Prix LGR (71-75). He also won the South African Gold of Pretoria Championship (69-70) and finished 13th at the Doral Junior Championship (72-74-73) in 2010.
“Christian has been competing on a global scale for three years now, and his maturity and experience at a young age will certainly benefit the team,” Sliman said. “He has proven that he is a competitor and can compete at a very high level.”
Davis comes to UL from Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, La. where he had numerous strong finishes in amateur tournaments.
The Louisiana native placed first at the 2011 Junior PGA Selection Qualifier (72-71) and eighth at the 39th Southern Junior Championship (74-74-75). He also finished second at the Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic (72-70) and 26th at the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship (75-72-75-76).
“I am very excited to bring in Ross Davis,” Sliman added. “I've enjoyed watching his junior golf career develop as well as getting to know him on a personal level throughout the recruiting process. Ross has a very mature approach to the game of golf. I am very interested in seeing it manifest on the golf course as a Ragin' Cajun.
